About us
The Community Diagnostic Centre at Southlands Hospital opened in October 2023 and is a purpose-built unit to provide diagnostic tests to our patients. You may be referred to us from your GP or hospital doctor.
We currently provide x-ray, ultrasound, CT and MRI scans.
How we help
Our Radiographers will acquire high-quality images to aid your diagnosis. Your images will be reviewed by a Radiologist or Reporting Radiographer after you have left. This means unfortunately, we will be unable to provide any results at the time of your appointment.
Important
If you are or could be pregnant, please ensure you inform the radiographer before your examination. Imaging involving radiation is avoided as much as possible during pregnancy, however, can still be performed if there is an urgent clinical need.
Getting ready for your appointment
When you receive your appointment letter, please carefully check the appointment time and location.
Some scans will require preparation, please read all information provided and contact us if you have any questions.
It is advisable to wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment, but it may still be necessary for us to request you change into a gown for your examination.
Please note, we do not have childcare facilities in our department.
What happens at your appointment
On arrival, you will be greeted by our friendly reception team and invited into the waiting area. An Imaging Support Worker will collect you from the waiting area and take you through to the preparation area. They will go through any preparation with you and answer any questions you may have.
A Radiographer will complete your diagnostic examination and will let you know any aftercare and how you can expect to get your results afterwards.
Please note that after 4pm and at weekends, there are no catering facilities open at Southlands. You may wish to bring something with you when you attend your appointment.

Please use the Hammy Lane entrance and follow the signs for Community Diagnostic Centre. We are located past the coffee shop on your left.
