How we help
If you are unable to use regular hearing aids or do not receive adequate benefit from these, you could be considered for a bone conduction or middle ear implant. A test battery is undertaken to assess whether the implant will be successful and advice is provided on what implant is most suited for your hearing loss.
Getting ready for your appointment
Interpreters
If you require an interpreter for any language, including British Sign Language, please contact our department as soon as possible to request that this is arranged.
What to bring
Please bring with you hearing aids, ear moulds and documentation that you may have from any previous audiology appointments.
If you wear glasses, please bring these with you.
Hospital transport
If you require hospital transport, you will need to arrange this through your GP.
What happens at your appointment
You will have an initial assessment with our specialist audiologist, which usually lasts 1 hour and 15 minutes. A few weeks later you will have a follow-up assessment with our specialist audiologist and two ENT surgeons, which usually lasts 1 hour.
Where we are
Our hearing implant service is based on the 2nd floor of the Barry Building at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
