Pregnancy may be affected by hyperthyroidism (an overactive thyroid gland). If possible, hyperthyroidism should be treated and brought under control before getting pregnant. If hyperthyroidism is uncontrolled, there is a high risk of complications of pregnancy.

Hypothyroidism means an underactive thyroid gland, which does not make enough thyroid hormone. A pregnant woman’s thyroid hormones are vital for her and for the development of her baby. There is an increased risk of complications in pregnancy if hypothyroidism is not carefully treated.

Radioiodine is a form of iodine that is radioactive. It is given as a tablet or capsule and is used to treat thyroid glands that are over-active or very large.

This test checks the body’s ability to make a natural steroid hormone or chemical signal called cortisol.

Steroid induced diabetes is when the level of sugar in the blood is too high. This can be caused by Dexamethasone (a steroid medication), which is often needed for treatment of cancer.
