Dr Nick Child

Biography

Dr Nick Child is a consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist working in Chichester and Southampton. He has an interest in all forms of cardiology and have specialised training in the management of abnormal heart rhythms, complex cardiac pacemakers and cardiac MRI.

Having completed his general cardiology training in a number of hospitals around Hampshire and Dorset, Nick underwent dedicated electrophysiology and complex device fellowships initially at Southampton and Bournemouth, and subsequently a further post training fellowship at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London. He is internationally accredited in both electrophysiology and cardiac devices via the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners.

Nick’s main NHS practice is at St Richards Hospital in Chichester and he is also an honorary consultant at University Hospital Southampton where he performs electrophysiology procedures.

Professional Interests and Procedures

Nick treats all different types of general cardiology patients and additionally runs a specialist clinic for patients with different types of heart rhythm disorders. He performs a number of different cardiac procedures in Chichester including diagnostic angiograms, simple and complex pacemakers and defibrillators, transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiograms and cardiac MRI. Some of the heart rhythm patients from Chichester who need a special form of treatment where abnormal electrical signals within their heart are either burned or frozen are treated by Nick in University Hospital Southampton.

Nick is very proud of the specialist AF service we have developed at St Richards Hospital in conjunction with the rest of the cardiac rhythm management team (Consultants and Specialist Nurses) and we were awarded an Arrhythmia Alliance Pioneer Award last year for this new service.

Research Interests

Nick has a broad research interest and have recently completed his MD with King’s College London, and published on a wide variety of topics including atrial fibrillation, ven tricular tachycardia, cardiac physiology and cardiac MRI. He currently has 28 peer reviewed publications including a number as first author and has been invited to give presentations at international conferences.
